Dancing Christmas … This is the Christmas décor on the veranda of Arnel P Hernandez’s residence inside the US Naval Base at Yokosuka, Japan. It features several layers of dancing multi-colored Christmas motif. For this effort, he was awarded this year’s second best for “tower category”display in a contest held by the CFAY (Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka) and participated in by base residents. Hernandez’s comments: Not very many houses have put up decorations this Christmas compared to those years in the 1990s. In last year’s design competition, he won first prize. A retired US serviceman, Hernandez was an alumni of JP High School, Batch ’73. – To see the design in action click here. – From Facebook posting/MWBuzz text by AP HERNANDEZ

Sign of progress … These three cell sites on a mountain slope overlooking the town proper of Mambulao as well as Mambulao Bay suggest one thing: progress and modernity. Cell phone and IT providers Smart, Globe and Sun know that more and more Mambulaoans are accessing wireless telecommunications, prompting them to erect this relay towers some years ago as part of their efforts to improve wireless communication in the municipality. The bay reflects a blue sky, but on a closer look, the water is actually murky, brownish and polluted, courtesy of gold mining operations nearby. Picture was taken by photography hobbyist Artem Andaya, a local resident. – MWBuzz text by AP HERNANDEZ
