THE local
government unit of Mambulao in CamNorte and a newly-launched local consumer
cooperative have partnered to create livelihood opportunities for the town’s less-privileged.
The LGU will
soon transfer to the Mambulao Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MMPC) an amount of
Pph90,000 to finance livelihood programs for qualified members of the co-op.
The deal was
signed on Feb 21, between Mayor Ricarte “Dong” Padilla and MMPC chairman Arthur
C Canlas.
The LGU will
screen applicants and endorse to the cooperative those who qualified for
funding.
The two
entities are expected to announce the list of potential business activities
that credit beneficiaries would undertake.
Of the
Php90,000 livelihood funding, Php40,000 was raised last year by overseas
Mambulaoans through the online newsletter Mambulaoans Worldwide Buzz (MWBuzz)
and the rest was allocated by the LGU.
The LGU and
MMPC said that they merged their efforts to help create livelihood
opportunities for the co-op’s poor members.
The MMPC,
which was officially launched on Feb 8, operates its dry goods store in
baranggay Plaridel.
