THE first consumer cooperative formed in Mambulao, CamNorte in about 20 years was launched recently to provide cheaper food items and to create livelihood opportunities for its less-privileged members.

The Mambulao Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MMPC), which was launched on Feb 8, was organized by overseas and locally-based Mambulaoans.

Initially, MMPC offers consumer items such as dry goods and frozen meat products, according to Elsie Dimaunahan, co-op treasurer..

MMPC buys its goods from bulk suppliers in Daet and elsewhere.

Dimaunahan said the store’s opening sales hit Php36,325, and since then, the average daily sales were about P3,500, with rice, sugar, milk and coffee being the fast-moving items.

Elsie Dimaunahan, the co-op treasurer, said the store will try its best to sell consumer goods at comparatively cheaper prices.

Located at Baranggay Plaridel, the store is being patronized by Mambulao-based members, LGU employes and baranggay officials.

The co-op is registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).
