LEGAZPI CITY: Idle residents of at least two towns in the province of Sorsogon will soon get themselves busy earning  for a living, according to an official of the Department of Trade and Industry here.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bicol Regional Director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco said the recipients are now implementing various projects and strategies after she awarded a total of P1.5M “Bottom-Up Budgeting” (BUB) project funds   to the municipalities of Matnog and Prieto Diaz, both of the province of Sorsogon, recently.

Matnog Mayor Emilio G. Ubaldo received a P1M check while Prieto Diaz Mayor Benito L. Doma received P.5M, both on behalf of their respective municipal government units.

“The funds were intended to improve the Local Government Units’ (LGUs) food and handicraft industries through the conduct of skills and entrepreneurship training programs that will prepare the local producers and processors to become more competitive,” Blanco told this reporter.

Blanco said that fund assistance will be used where existing products will be enhanced in terms of functionality, quality, design and visual impact.

“To complete the package of interventions, marketing support programs will also be provided,” she added.

The town of Matnog will seek to develop its Eco-Tourism service providers in the food and handicraft industries while the town of Prieto Diaz will focus on the development of its processed food that includes coconut and its by-products, danggit and other marine products. – Bicol Mail
