Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales take first bite of bitter CamSur politics

SAN JOSE, Camarines Sur: Showbiz couple Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales took their first bite of bitter Camarines Sur politics after several persons filed joint petition asking the town Comelec to deny the Muhlachs’ applications as registered voters in the town.

The petitioners also cast doubt on the Muhlachs’ alleged residency when they were only first seen by San Jose residents on February when the couple acted as sponsors for a mass wedding.

The petitioners argued that Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales have no known relatives nor owned a piece of property in the town, and that the showbiz couple have never voted in the town during past elections.

The complaint filed against the Muhlach couple was confirmed by Comelec provincial officer Noriel Badiola, who explained before a local radio interview on Monday, that the Muhlachs must answer the petition, either at the municipal trial court or the San Jose Comelec office.

San Jose Comelec officer Imelda Añonuevo said the petitioners against the Muhlachs are Sonny Martos, Augusto Ledesma, Ernie Salvo, Gerry Huit, Mariano Papaya, Romeo Naldoza, Aldrin Salvo, Ma. Christina Polillo, Sonny Huit, Egin Penero, Erna Samar Clores, Julio Pejo Dizon, Manuel de le Vega Moranda, and Luis Samar.

The petitioners took the services of attorney Juan Luis Carpio, a Naga City lawyer, as legal counsel.

The signed affidavits of petitioners were notarized by Lawyer Gil Pacamarra, a former mayor of the town.

The San Jose Comelec office received the petition on April 2, and scheduled the hearing for the Muhlachs before the Election Registration Board on Monday, April 16.

The petitioners plead with the Comelec to deny the Muhlachs their applications to register as voters in the town.

BicolToday.Com learned the petitioners are all residents, except for two, of Barangay San Juan, this town, and they are the future neighbors of the Muhlachs if they are true in their words that they will transfer residence in the town.

Last March 19, the Muhlachs registered themselves as voters, and reported at the Comelec that their home address is at Rizal Street, Barangay San Juan.

The showbiz couple started making waves among the nearby towns of Goa, Lagonoy, Presentacion when they made public appearances and acted as mass wedding and baptism sponsors.

The couple were seen accompanied by Camarines Sur Governor L-ray Villafuerte and Vice-Governor Fortunato Peña, and other local politicians.

It was rumored that the petitions against the Muhlachs were instigated by politicians who would be affected if the Muhlachs enter into Camarines Sur politics.

Persistent reports indicated that Aga is running for Congressman in the Camarines Sur fourth district, while the latest news is that Charlene Conzales is also running for a lower post.

But. the Muhlachs did not make any public statement confirming their intentions to run for elective posts this coming 2013 polls.

There is no confirmation if the Muhlachs will appear on the Comelec hearing on Monday, April 16, or they will send their legal counsel, but they will be present on Thursday, April 12, for a reunion of the Muhlach clan in Goa town, five kilometers from San Jose. BicolToday.com
