CamNorte earns top citation from government accountants

By JUAN ESCANDOR JR

DAET, CamNorte: Two offices among more than 70 provincial accounting offices all over the country were given “Outstanding Accounting Office Award” recently for their performance in 2012, a government executive said recently.

Myrna V Sendon, provincial accountant, said the CamNorte provincial accounting office and that of Pangasinan province were awarded the highest award by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (Agap) in Bacolod City last month.

Agap is an organization of accountants from different government departments and agencies established in 1950 aimed at fostering unity among government accountants and protecting the accounting profession.

It is also aimed at promoting and maintaining high professional and ethical standards among government and private accountants; advancing the science of accountancy; encouraging and promoting and fostering cordial relations and understanding and intercourse among government accountants, among other objectives.

Sendon said it was the Commission on Audit (COA) that nominated the provincial accounting office here in its performance in 2012 for the yearly award given to local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).

As an outstanding provincial accounting office all over the country, Agap recognized  the CamNorte provincial government “for having exemplary met the criteria of accuracy, timeliness, reliability and compliance to accounting rules and regulations” set in the selection of nominees.

Sendon surmised that as per experience in the submission of accounting reports to COA she noted that there was not an instance that they were questioned about the report for deficiencies or errors.

“That, perhaps, made us the top performer among provincial accounting offices in the country,” she mused.

Gov Edgardo A. Tallado commended the performance of the provincial accounting office saying the dedication of the personnel and staff provides the window of how transactions were done in his administration.

Tallado said he saw the dedication and efficiency of Sendon in matters of accounting that’s why he appointed her to head the provincial accounting office in 2012.

He said it is the first time that CamNorte was given such recognition and that he believes that it validated the transparency of financial transactions under his administration. – Bicol Mail
