JPNHS alumni urged to sponsor poor batch mates’ membership fees

Grand fun … Members of  JPNHS Batch ’73 busy themselves in setting up a stage for the groups grand homecoming held at a Kapakuan (Paracale) farm in 2008. The motif was “Pista sa Nayon”, in which batch members donned native dresses, highlighted by a “bahay-kubo” made of nipa shingles built nearby. This is the kind of fun that batch member Arnel P Hernandez would like his poor batch mates based in Mambulao to enjoy in the general homecoming on April 28-29 to be held at the JPNHS campus. He called on his overseas batch mates to sponsor their membership fees of P500 each so they could also attend and experience the grand fun. – MWBuzzpic  by Batch ’73

A MEMBER of Batch 73 of Jose Panganiban National High School graduates has called on all alumni to sponsor the association membership fees of their poor batch mates for them to attend the general homecoming on April 28-29.

The appeal was made by Arnel P Hernandez based in Yokosuka, Japan, in an effort to boost the number of attendees to the coming alumni reunion to be held at the JPNHS campus in Parang, Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte.

Hernandez said overseas alumni if they unable to attend the gathering, should chip in at least US$50 each to pay for the membership fees of four batch mates who could not afford the amount.

Earlier, he posted a message on Facebook calling all the members of Batch 73 who are overseas and elsewhere in the Philippines to chip in at least an equivalent of P2,000 to shoulder the P500-membership fees of their less-fortunate school mates.

He noted that there are “many alumni residing in Mambulao who are not fortunate enough to make good financially and therefore needed our assistance, however small it would be”.

“This way, our less-fortunate batch members would be able to come and enjoy the camaraderie and fun that would be taking place during the two-day gathering,” Hernandez said. " We don't want them to be a (fence sitter) during the reunion".

The general homecoming is held every five years. The last one held was in 2007, attended by close to 1,000 overseas and local alumni members.

The April home coming expects to draw close to 1,000 alumni from overseas and those based in the Philippines.

But Hernandez said he hopes his call would help this year’s gathering surpass the attendees in 2007 general homecoming.
