Police nab suspected robbers cum carnappers victimizing CamNorte

DAET: Four members of a notorious robbery ring allegedly responsible for the recent spate of robberies in this northern Bicol povince were arrested Monday evening after a chase in the rice fields of this capital town, the Philippine National Police (PNP) here said recently.

Senior Superintendent Jose Capinpin, officer-in-charge of CamNorte PNP, said the four members of the notorious Manolito Garganeta Robbery-Holdup Gang operating in Quezon and Bicol were arrested by joint police and military operatives.

They were identified as Eduardo Pabico, 49, of Daet town; Romano Magana, 28, of Paracale town; and Joseph Cuyos, 24, of Pagbilao, Quezon.

Edgardo Delos Reyes, the fourth suspect, was arrested later, Capinpin said.

The four suspects were apprehended in Barangay Lag-on in Daet, right after a chase in the rice fields in the said village, where the suspected robbers ran into after breaching a checkpoint of the police highway patrol group in a segment of the Maharlika Highway in nearby Talisay town, Capinpin said.

Prior to the chase, the four suspects were onboard a white van.

The breach led to a chase from the checkpoint to the vicinity of Daet-San Vicente road, which straddles rice fields and residential areas.

When the joint police operatives again flagged down the white van, the suspected robbers immediately disembarked, fired on the operatives, and ran into the rice fields.

Suspect Cuyos yielded an unlicensed caliber .45 pistol.
Recovered from the rest of the suspected robbers were another caliber .45 pistol, and two magazines and ammunition for caliber .45 pistol.

Two fired cartridges for M16 rifle and a hand grenade were also recovered inside the Mazda van used by the suspects.
The van is registered to Archie Poca Cayag of Purok 7, Barangay IV, Daet, Camarines Norte, Capinpin said.

In a follow-up operation, the police were able to arrest Delos Reyes at the residence of Pabico and recovered two helmets and two short pants, believed to be used during the robbery-holdup incident that took place last July 18 at MJCV Fashion Center at Guinto Building in Gov Panotes Avenue, Barangay VII in Daet, Camarines Sur.

Capinpin said the robbers were also suspected to be responsible for other robbery-holdup incidents in Camarines Norte and were also the suspects in Teaño carnapping with homicide case in Metro Manila.

The suspects are now under the custody of Daet PNP, where robbery charges against them are being readied.
