Mayor Ricarte Padilla has obtained a P500,000-funding for the completion of the
Senior Citizens' center buildings in Larap and Luklukan Sur.
Padilla told
MWBuzz that the office of Vice-President Jejomar Binay recently advised him
that a total of P500,000 has been approved for the building of a center for
Senior Citizens in Larap and in Luklukan Sur
Binay is
responsible for the promotion of the welfare of Senior Citizens in the
Philippines.
"The money
could come by the end of this month (May)," he said, adding that the
documents for the funds' release are now being processed.
"That
building (in Larap) is about 67 percent complete ... so the P250,000 funding
would be used to put up the roof and the floorings along with the finishing
touches," the mayor told MWBuzz.
Padilla was
responding to query from Mrs Josefina Francisco, who is president of the Senior
Citizens of Larap Association, as to when the Larap Senior Citizens' center
would be completed
Reacting to the
good news, Mrs Francisco told MWBuzz that the Senior Citizens in Larap would no
longer have to move from one house to another just to be able to hold their
regular meetings.
Thanking Padilla,
she said that she knew they mayor won't fail the more than 200 members of their
association on their request for a center, which is located at the heart of
Larap.
The center, which
measures about 5m x 10m, is just a shell of hollow block walls, with the roof
and floor still to be built.
Mrs Francisco
said that they are planning to do some fundraising activities such as public
dance and raffle draws for the purchase of furniture and fixtures that would be
used at the center.
