Suspected drug pusher shot dead in CamNorte

DAET, Camarines Norte: A 51-year-old suspected drug ring member was shot dead while driving a car with his family before noon recently at Barangay Magsaysay in Capalonga, Camarines Norte, the Philippine National Police (PNP) here said.

Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, PNP director in Camarines Norte, said Leoman Arana was attacked and killed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at about 10.30am while onboard a Nissan Sentra bound for the town proper of Capalonga.

Arana died on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Esquivel added. His live-in partner and three children, however, survived the incident unscathed.

Capalonga is about 40km northeast of this capital town of Daet, where the victim resided.

The assailants, who fled right after the incident towards the neighboring town of Labo, remain at large.

The calibers of the firearms used and the motive in killing Arana are yet to be determined by the police.

The victim, Esquivel said, was suspected to be a member of Arana Drug Group and had been under police watch for almost eight years for his alleged involvement in illegal drug trade in Camarines Norte until he was arrested in 2004.

He was facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act, Esquivel added. – Bicol Mail
