LEGAZPI CITY: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced the termination of the implementation of the Hospital Insurance Plan (HIP) and the Family Hospitalization Plus Plan (FHPP) effective Jan 1 2013.

The GSIS, in an email to this Philippine Information Agency (PIA) regional office here, stated that the agency has found out that the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) offers better benefits compared to those being offered by the GSIS under both plans.

GSIS will cease the renewal of existing policies after the  termination date of Dec 31, 2012 and will no longer bill and accept premium payments due on the HIP and FHPP.

The agency, however, noted that for policies that will remain in force until the end of this year, the GSIS will accept and process claims as long as they are filed within sixty (60) calendar days from the last day of confinement.

For clarification on this concern, GSIS has advised members to visit the frontline services unit in any GSIS office or contact its call center through  telephone numbers (2) 847-4747; Globe Toll Free Number: 1-800-8-847-4747 (free from both Globe landline and mobile phone); PLDT/Smart Toll-Free Number: 1-800-10-847-4747 (free from PLDT landline: a flat rate of P8.00/per call from mobile phone. – PIA
