Latest: PNP sacks police chief of Camarines Sur, 5 others

MANILA, Philippines: Camp Crame has relieved from their posts the provincial police director of CamSur and five of his police chiefs over their alleged failure to curb illegal gambling in the province.

Supt Renato Bataller, spokesman of the Bicol region police, identified the officials who were relieved as Sr Supt Ramon Ranara, the provincial police director; Buhi police chief Chief Insp. Alejandro Monge; Canaman police chief Sr Insp Rodolfo Oliver Jr; Pili police chief Chief Insp Venerando Ramirez; Pasacao police chief Sr Insp Joel Sabuco; and Sipocot police chief Chief Insp. Noel Aquino.

Bataller said they were relieved due to their failure to stop illegal gambling in the province.

The move, however, comes three days after a mayor of Lupi, Camarines Sur, a member of the ruling Liberal Party, was shot dead in Naga City.

Mayor Raul Matamorosa was having a television repaired in a shop in Naga City when he was shot in the head by a man accompanied by two accomplices on Saturday, October 27.
The LP aims to dominate Camarines Sur politics.

It has fielded Leni Robredo, widow of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, as its congressional bet in Camarines Sur's 3rd district, running against the matriarch of the well-entrenched Villafuerte clan. - Rappler.com
