OBITUARIES

By  PERCY  A  OSTONAL
Michigan, USA

Corazon Maranan-Punayo , 1949-2012

ALTHOUGH the cause of Azon’s death remains undisclosed specially to her fellow batchmates overseas and elsewhere in the Philippines, we got information that she was undergoing a major medical check-up then and unable to attend our class reunions last June (2012) in JP and Daet. She will be long remembered for her genuine beautiful smiles and true friendship. Her passing would be a great loss to us. This JPHS 1963-1966 track and field star proudly represented our Alma Mater at the CamNorte Provincial Public High School Athletic Meet (CNPPHSAM). She was best known for her "finishing down-to-the-wire kicks" in 100- meter dash, dazzling speed in 200 meters, absolutely mesmerizing in 50-meter hurdles, exerted every effort clearing the bar in high jump and anchoring the 4x4 running relay team. Azon and a few athletes from JPHS were selected to be part of CamNorte sports delegation two years in a row to Bicol Region's  spectacular sportsfest in 1964-1966 in Naga City, CamSur and Legaspi City, Albay. The 1966 graduation issue of "The Waves" (Official Student publication of JPHS) reported her inclination to take up BSEE. She was a former resident of Larap, Jose Panganiban. She died in Manila on November 12 at age 63.

Arnold Gonzales , 1949-2012

"HE WANTED no more than happy song rendition and we surely did,” said one fellow Batch ‘66  who visited Arnold and his family together with some batchmates at their place in Cavite few weeks before Arnold succumb on October 31 at age 63. He died of lung cancer. A very cheerful person with infectious smiles, he was a member of senior class of 1966 folk dancers group and loved The Beatles songs and the 60s live bands. We both belong to the Cadena De Amor IV section. Very much attuned to music, Arnold, in company of the singing male classmates of ours, would stay then and did the serenading for whoever the classroom cleaners would be for the day. He was a former resident of Larap, Jose Panganiban. We will surely miss you classmate …farewell  kaibigan.”

Here's a poem by our classmate for Arnold:

By  TESSIE EBRIEGA- ESCUADRO

Paalam Arnold paalam
kababata, kamag-aral, kaibigan
Kasangga, kakulitan, kabiruan
kainuman, kakantahan at kasayawan

Iyan si Arnold na
aming kababayan

Sa iyong paglisan sa
mundong ibabaw

Baon mo ang aming
panalangin sa
Puong Maykapal

Kapatawaran, kapayapaan,
kaligayahan

At walang hanggang
katahimikan

Paalam Arnold, paalam
ikaw ay hindi namin
makakalimutan

Dito sa aming puso't isipan
lagi kang andyan
at dumuduyan-duyan
